It’s that time of year again… Time to take our ski clothes out of summer hibernation, check that our skis are ready for winter and, finally time to put our ski boots on!
After a week of gorgeous sunshine, Saturday in Hintertux dawned a bit grey. There were lots of clouds, fog was swirling and the wind was whistling around the gondola. It was tempting to stay in the cabin and ride straight back down to the car park but, as always, the lure of skiing won!
The snow was soft and heavy. And, by the end of the day, the piste down to the Tuxer Fernerhaus was pushed up into interesting slush bumps. So that was nice!
There were quite a few race training teams up there. However, due to the fantastic organisation of the race lanes this had no effect on the public pistes and lift queues were minimal. Some of the race training pistes were scraped down to glacier ice – hardly surprising as every racer in a team follows the same course!
It was great to go skiing and as we left it was snowing so hopefully next time we go up there it will look and feel a bit fresher.
