The start of the winter season was promising with some amazing snow even before the ski areas were open.  Unfortunately, as December continued piste conditions reverted back to what is normal for the time of year – good, grippy snow with gravel showing through where the piste was a bit threadbare.  It didn’t snow for a couple of weeks and then the Föhn wind came which started stripping the snow from exposed areas.

Finally it snowed on Boxing Day night.  Other areas were reporting a metre of snow, though we only had about 10-20cm… Still, it was better than nothing and freshened everything up.
Then…  Today it snowed…  and it snowed all day 🙂  Early this morning there was about 30cm on piste, which made skiing with a beginner monoskier a bit tricky.  As the day went on and the snow was skied out in some ways it became easier, though staying on the snow as the monoski bounced over the bumps that had formed later in the day was a challenge!

We were happy to be skiing on fresh snow again though.  It felt great!
