It snowed in Hochfügen so we went for a walk today. Thanks to the Eisheilige we were able to take our skis with us.
The Eisheilige, or Ice Saints, are three saints (or maybe four or five depending on your region) who have their feast days between the 11th and 15th May. According to tradition, folklore and the ever accurate Farmer’s Calender these feast days always bring cold weather with them.
This year there has been a lot of rain and snow falling on the mountains, all the more surprising following the mild-ish winter that we had.
Photos from earlier in the week showed snow in the car park. That had mostly gone, but 100m walking got us to snow patches that were still left from the winter.
