The excitement is building… For some, time spent webcam watching has increased, others are obsessing about the amount of snow on the glaciers, holidays are being booked, new skis are being bought, it has been confirmed that the FIS Ski World Cup Opening races in Sölden are going to go ahead, #winteriscoming – it must be true, it says so on Twitter!
It’s difficult not to get swept along in the anticipation. Despite the distinctly uninspiring weather last weekend it was great to blow the cobwebs away in Hintertux. It’s hard to look at photos and videos of snow covered mountains and not feel a bit of a buzz thinking winter will be here soon…
On the other hand, it seems a shame to wish our lives away.
I went to Hochfügen this afternoon, it was late in the day and although the light was getting low I thought maybe I should take some time, look around and appreciate the amazing colours and scenery of autumn.
Hochfügen is pretty in autumn
It’s clear that the ski area are getting ready. The snow cannons are in place, ready to start making snow as soon as the temperature goes down. Last year, the pistes were, more or less, skiable in the middle of November. Hopefully, this year they will be too. I’m looking forward to winter. I’m looking forward to cold mornings.
I’m looking forward to skiing in some fluffy snow.
I’m looking forward to skiing with my first adaptive student of this season.
But, in the meantime, I’m going to admire the scenery.
