Almabtrieb in Fügen – The cows walk down from the summer mountain pastures to the valley farms where they spend the winter.  This herd set off from Hochfügen and are on their way to Reith im Alpbachtal – a walk of about 25km.  Here, they are on the main Zillertal road, totally unperturbed by the fact that they are holding up the main road traffic.

Almabtrieb is a good excuse for a party ( and a spot of gratuitous thigh slapping!).  Music, beer, Zillertaler Krapfen, sausages, speck and cheese – all were in abundance in Fügen last Saturday.
The summer season is coming to the end, the evenings are drawing in and winter is getting closer.  It won’t be long now before the Tirol Snowcard will be available and we can head up to Hintertux for some pre-season turns.
